Shook Construction completed two interconnected renovation projects for Case Western Reserve University that modernized academic, research, and administrative spaces within the Dental Research Building. Together, the projects transformed nearly 60,000 square feet of existing space to support the university’s evolving educational, research, and operational needs.

The first project involved the renovation of 38,060 square feet on the ground floor to relocate and modernize the Biology Department’s teaching laboratories. This effort included the construction of nine teaching labs, two resource labs, lab preparation areas, faculty offices, student collaboration areas, a break room, and lab support spaces. Significant infrastructure upgrades included new air handling units, laboratory casework, and an operable partition system. Early turnover of select spaces allowed university staff to transfer equipment and maintain academic schedules throughout the renovation.

Building on the success of the laboratory improvements, Shook was selected to renovate the adjacent 21,930-square-foot Dental Building Ground Floor Fit-Out, which relocated administrative offices and support functions. Because the building remained occupied throughout construction, the project required careful phasing, detailed logistics planning, and ongoing coordination with university stakeholders to minimize disruptions.

Together, these renovations transformed outdated facilities into modern, flexible environments that enhance teaching, research, collaboration, and administrative operations while supporting Case Western Reserve University’s continued growth and academic excellence.
