Co-Ops & Apprentices
From apprentices to college co-ops, Shook is helping build the next generation of construction leaders.
Shook offers proven pathways that build careers through hands-on experience, mentorship, and development.
Co-Op Program
Our Co-Op Program is designed to help future builders grow with purpose. Our program gives students real-world experience in both the field and the office. From helping manage jobsites to supporting preconstruction activities, you’ll gain hands-on experience alongside industry veterans, creating a strong foundation to your career. We also welcome interns to select support services, such as project solutions, marketing, and communications.
Our Co-Op program dates back nearly five decades, and Shook leaders of all levels have used it as a springboard to their careers, including our current President & CEO.
Shook offers paid Co-op positions in Ohio, North Carolina, and Indiana for students pursuing degrees in construction management, engineering, marketing, and other related fields.
“Many Co-Ops choose to build their careers at Shook because they are given meaningful opportunities to contribute from Day One, trusted with real responsibilities, and supported by teammates who are genuinely invested in their growth. If someone is willing to learn, work hard, and take on new challenges, Shook provides the experience, mentorship, and opportunities needed to thrive. Throughout my career at Shook, mentors and teammates have encouraged and supported me every step of the way — from my time as a Co-Op through my transition into a full-time role. Their willingness to share knowledge and offer guidance has helped me build confidence, take on new challenges, and continue developing professionally.”
Brayton R., Project Engineer
“I realized I could build a long-term career here when I was given opportunities as a young professional to learn and grow. All those opportunities gave me confidence in my abilities and showed me that Shook was invested in my future. Even as an apprentice, I felt like a valued member of the team. The trust placed in me to handle meaningful responsibilities made me feel that my contributions mattered and that I was making a difference. Shook has given me more than just a job; it has given me a place to grow and learn. The experiences, relationships, and opportunities I've had here have helped shape me into the professional I am today, and I am grateful to be part of a team that continuously invests in its people and their success.”
Yahir P.A., Associate Project Engineer
"When I learned about Shook’s community involvement and service opportunities, I immediately knew it was a company I wanted to learn more about. During my summer Co-Op, there was never a moment when I felt like I had nowhere to turn for help. Everyone in the office and the field was willing to teach me something, answer my questions, and make me feel comfortable as part of the team. The experience prepared me well and gave me confidence to transition from college into a full-time Project Engineer role. The support I received, the opportunities to grow, and Shook’s emphasis on work-life balance made it easy to picture myself building a long-term career here."
Elise O., Project Engineer
“Shook really values the contributions of the next generation and spends a lot of time and resources to give meaningful experiences to young professionals. With the Co-op Program, Shook Young Professionals, and a great culture, Shook provides a lot of opportunities to develop professionally. Established team members across the company, both in the field and in support services, respect younger talent. All of this creates an environment where the only thing you can do is grow.”
