Warren County, OH — Renneker Ion Exchange PFAS Upgrade

Warren County advanced its goal of using newly developed water wells as an independent water source, reducing reliance on the City of Cincinnati’s water system. After per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were identified in the new wells, the project added a treatment system within the County’s existing nanofiltration building to remove PFAS and support safe, reliable water delivery. 

The scope included installation of the new PFAS removal system, electrical upgrades, pipe rerouting, and valve modifications at an existing pump station. Because the County procured the PFAS equipment directly, Shook worked closely with the owner and suppliers to coordinate delivery of owner-furnished materials and mitigate schedule risks associated with long lead times for valves, variable frequency drives, and treatment equipment.

Through proactive coordination, supplier communication, and careful sequencing, Shook completed the project on schedule while returning unused allowances to Warren County. The completed upgrades allow the County to use its new wells as a local water supply while strengthening long-term water quality, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure independence. The facility is believed to be the first operational municipal PFAS treatment facility in Ohio.
