Bedford Heights, OH — Wastewater Treatment Plant

Shook is serving as Construction Manager at Risk for major upgrades and critical repairs to the Bedford Heights Wastewater Treatment Plant, improving capacity, reliability, and long-term performance of the city’s wastewater infrastructure. The project includes improvements within the existing treatment facility, along with construction of a new pump station, flow equalization basin, headworks improvements, and overflow management systems.

Major upgrades include:

• New 2.25-million-gallon flow equalization basin to manage flows in excess of 10 MGD
• New headworks building with septage receiving area and vactor dump station to increase influent capacity to a peak hourly flow of 28 MGD
• New influent pump station with 28 MGD firm capacity 
• New EQ pump station with 18 MGD firm capacity
• New influent mechanical screens, grit removal system, and grit handling equipment
• Replacement of primary and final clarifier mechanisms
• Aeration tank improvements and new secondary clarifier mechanisms
• New RAS and WAS pumps
• Plant drain piping and valve modifications
• Electrical, instrumentation, and controls upgrades
• New electrical service and standby generator designed to power the entire facility
• Critical structural repairs throughout the plant

Through careful coordination and phased construction, the project will modernize Bedford Heights’ wastewater treatment capabilities while maintaining essential plant operations. The completed improvements will extend the life of existing infrastructure, strengthen operational reliability, and support the city’s long-term environmental and utility goals.
