During our Annual Meeting, Shook employees built 100 bikes for children in our local community in partnership with The Starfish Assignment. It was wonderful to work together as a company to further our Mission, To Dramatically Improve the Communities We Serve. Special thanks to the City of Columbus Division of Police and Franklin County Sheriff's Office for helping to assemble and transport the bikes. We can't wait to see them in action!

The results are in and Shook's Dayton office has been named a 2023 Best Places to Work Honoree through the Dayton Business Journal! Only 37 companies in the region received this honor, which was based solely on feedback offered through an employee survey. We feel truly thankful that our employees at all levels continuously strive to make Shook a top workplace.

Blue Buffalo Breaks Ground on 169,000 SF Warehouse Addition
Congratulations to Blue Buffalo on the groundbreaking of their 169,000-square-foot warehouse addition! The addition will grow the building’s footprint by 40% and accommodate additional equipment to increase the production of natural pet food. Shook helped to build the original facility in Richmond, Indiana, which was completed in 2019, and we’re excited to work with the Barry-Wehmiller Design Group again to provide concrete work on this expansion project.
As part of our global mission trip program, Shook Construction sent eight employees to Mozambique, East Africa, in April 2022 to build new, on-campus teacher dormitories for a remote school for SAM Ministries. The project had an immense and immediate impact on the community of Mucombeze and was named a Global Best Projects Award Winner by Engineering News-Record (ENR).
Seeking a team passionate about storytelling, Shook partnered with ManaVision who traveled to Mozambique with the team to capture the experience. Under their direction, the documentary, Obrigado Mucombeze(Thank You Mucombeze), invites others to follow the journey across the world to share what the team discovered: that in giving back, they received far more than they could have imagined.
Shook was awarded a Build Ohio Award for our effort to restore Dayton Phoenix Group's 630,000 SF manufacturing facility after it was hit by the Memorial Day tornadoes in 2019. For the last three years, a multitude of people from Shook and our great team of partners poured their hearts into rebuilding this facility. With no notice, no plans, and no budget set, the swift mobility of our team as well as out-of-the-box thinking were required to adapt to every challenge uncovered. Working ~600 days in the facility (with all but 45 being tenant-occupied) and yielding 300,000+ manhours, Shook and our subcontractors had zero lost time injuries and delivered a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to our client. Thank you to DPG for turning to us in your time of need and being the most incredible client that became family, and to AGC of Ohio for recognizing the great effort of our team and honoring us with this award!
