ABOUT THE FILM

As part of a global mission trip program, Shook Construction sent eight employees to Mozambique, East Africa, in April 2022 to build new, on-campus teacher dormitories for a remote school for SAM Ministries. Located near the remote village of Mucombeze in west central Mozambique is a 2,350-acre farm owned solely by the SAM Ministries mission to enable their training and community development initiatives.

Seeking a team passionate about storytelling, Shook partnered with ManaVision who traveled to Mozambique with the team to capture the experience. Under their direction, the documentary, Obrigado Mucombeze (Thank You Mucombeze), invites others to follow the journey across the world to share what the team discovered: that in giving back, they received far more than they could have imagined.

With a mission To Dramatically Improve the Communities We Serve, Shook Construction saw this film as an opportunity to promote the power and impact of serving on a global level and hopes it will serve as a guiding tool for educating and inspiring others to make a difference.

“The Shook team was immeasurably changed in Mozambique, all because we answered a call to serve and are fortunate enough to work for a company that values and promotes such an extreme level of service. Before we left, we didn’t know exactly what we were going to encounter. Once we were on the ground in Mucombeze, it didn’t take long for us to realize this trip was more than a simple, third-world construction project. It was all about the people of Mozambique – our humble attempt to serve them and their massive impact on us. It is impossible to describe the infectious joy of the people we had the privilege to meet. They have so little in material goods, but they live with tremendous faith and strength in community. They are so happy, and that is so powerful. We came home with an appreciation of this joy and a realization that service to others is the pathway to catch some of it.” – Dan Wolking, Vice President of Midwest Water, Shook Construction

ABOUT SAM MINISTRIES' MISSION IN MOZAMBIQUE

SAM Ministries’ agent in Mozambique (ASAM, or Associação Amor Moçambique) is a registered non-profit in Canada and is currently in the process of obtaining their 501(c)(3) non-profit status in the U.S. Their mission is To Love God and Love People so they Have a Chance to Love God and People.

Located strategically in the central province of Manica, their mission base is a 2,350-acre farm, owned solely by the mission to enable training and development initiatives. The land was purchased in 2004 and SAM Ministries is now in the process of establishing much needed infrastructure for the growing needs of their various programs. Although much of their work is focused on and around the area they are located in Mucombeze, their extensive training efforts now reach into the four central provinces of the country: Manica, Sofala, Tete, and Zambezi Provinces.

As they seek to address the many challenges facing Mozambicans day to day, SAM Ministries' strategy is to focus on the training and development of leaders who can impact many more than we can individually, and to focus on the care and development of children who, without a doubt, will have the greatest impact on the future success of Mozambique and her people.
