Shook Construction, a distinguished leader in the construction industry, is thrilled to announce a yearlong celebration of its 100-Year Anniversary, highlighting a century of growth, innovation, and commitment to its communities. With special events and unique community initiatives, Shook will celebrate its rich history of building communities as it charts a bright course for its next 100 years.
This milestone anniversary not only provides an opportunity to reflect on the company’s success over the past century but also allows Shook to look to the future with the same dedication to its team members, clients, and industry partners — all of whom are essential to the company’s success.
Charles H. Shook founded Shook Construction in 1926 in Dayton, Ohio. After receiving a degree in civil engineering and serving in the Army Corps of Engineers, Mr. Shook began working for an architectural firm in Dayton. When he was tasked to find a contractor for a project, Mr. Shook realized that no contractor was more committed to the work than himself, and the company was born.
With the foundations for success established by Charles Shook a century ago, Shook Construction has grown to more than 500 team members in eight locations across Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina.
“Charles Shook built this company on the foundational traits of honesty and integrity, and we’ve never lost sight of those as the company has grown over the past century,” said Shook Construction CEO Chris Halapy. “We’ve spent decades expanding on those while shaping the communities around us. Those traits are the cornerstones of Shook’s values today, and they’re the foundation that will propel us into the next 100 years as we work to fulfill our Vision — To relentlessly build a company so exceptional that the best clients and talent pursue us.”
For a century, Shook Construction has helped communities thrive by building modern learning environments, creating spaces that promote healing, making clean water for our communities, and powering American manufacturing.
Through innovative construction delivery methods, dedicated team members, strong relationships with industry partners, and visionary leadership, Shook Construction has grown into a leader in several market segments across its four regions: Midwest, Great Lakes, Central, and Mid-Atlantic. The company has shaped communities through transformative work across the education, healthcare, water resources, industrial, aviation, and mission critical markets.
“A hundred years of experience has shaped the construction expertise Shook delivers today,” Halapy said. “We’ve thrived through all the changes that a century brings — an expanding industry, economic shifts, and evolving construction techniques, to name a few. We’re bringing all our experience, innovation, and resiliency to our clients, trade partners, and communities as we move into our next century.”
Shook’s Mission is “To Dramatically Improve the Communities We Serve.” The company honors that commitment not only in what it builds, but also through outreach and acts of service in the communities where Shook teams work, live, and play.
In honor of its anniversary, Shook is embarking on a special community outreach initiative: 100 Acts of Service for 100 Years of Service. Each Shook job already completes a community outreach project annually to benefit the community where the construction is taking place. In 2026, the company’s teams will extend their reach, volunteering their time and talent to reach 100 Acts of Service — from workforce development programs and donating trades labor and materials to participating in food and toy drives, and more.
