In 2026, Shook Construction is commemorating our 100-Year Anniversary with a yearlong celebration, reflecting on a century of growth, innovation, and commitment to our communities. With 100 Acts of Service for 100 Years of Service and other special events, Shook will celebrate our rich history of building communities as we chart a bright course for our next 100 years.
Building on the foundations for success established by Charles Shook a century ago, Shook Construction has grown to more than 500 team members in eight locations across Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina. Through innovative construction delivery methods, dedicated team members, strong relationships with industry partners, and visionary leadership, Shook has grown into a leader in several market segments across our four regions: Midwest, Great Lakes, Central, and Mid-Atlantic. The company has shaped communities through transformative work across the education, healthcare, water resources, industrial, aviation, and mission critical markets.

1920s
Charles H. Shook founded Chas. H. Shook Inc. in 1926 in Dayton, Ohio. Our first major works included the Frigidaire Plant, Third National Bank Building (pictured), and Oakwood High School — all key projects that helped lay the foundation for our century of building excellence.

1930s
In the decade after our founding, Shook made a significant mark in the Dayton region by constructing several buildings, including the National Cash Register Building, Good Samaritan Hospital (pictured), and the Christian Science Church. During this time, we laid the groundwork as a trusted partner in the buildings that shape our communities.

1940s
As Shook reached the 1940s, we entered a decade of growth, expanding into the industrial market by constructing the Tait Power Station and a facility for General Motors.
During this decade, we also took the significant step of entering the water resources market, working on a sewage treatment plant (pictured) in 1948 in Newark, Ohio. This pivotal project marked the start of decades of delivering water resource expertise to our communities.

1950s
In the Fabulous Fifties, Shook answered the call in our communities for the growing need for pollution control facilities, increasing our water and wastewater treatment plant work, such as the Hamilton Water Treatment Plant.
But water resources was just one area where we made a splash. Another marquee Shook project was the Wright Field Administration Building (pictured) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

1960s
The foundations for success laid by Charles Shook carried the company forward through the change, and Shook continued our work on impactful community projects, including the Kettering Memorial Hospital and Scioto Memorial Hospital.

1970s
In the decade of disco, Shook scored significant hits of its own, as we undertook a major expansion in the water and wastewater markets, working on projects such as the Western Regional Wastewater Plant in Ohio.
Our growth continued with notable public building work for the state of Ohio, city of Dayton, and local universities. Marquee projects include the Dayton Convention and Exposition Center (pictured), the University of Dayton’s main library and Middletown Mall, which won a Build America Award.

1980s
As the 1980s dawned, demand for our expertise and work grew in Northern Ohio, including the Huron Wastewater Treatment Plant. By 1986, the increased work prompted Shook to open our Cleveland-area office.
Work elsewhere across Ohio — and across market segments —remained strong as we completed the GM Light Truck Assembly Plant (pictured) in Moraine, Ohio, and Emery’s Worldwide Hub Terminal Complex at the Dayton International Airport, for which we won a Build America Award.

1990s
As we reached the 1990s, Shook’s expertise and reputation took it beyond Ohio to neighboring Indiana. We opened our Indianapolis office in 1994 to support growth in the retail, public building, and industrial markets.
Though our geographic footprint expanded, we continued to work on high-visibility projects in Ohio, including Wright State University’s Nutter Center (pictured), the Miami County Courthouse, and the Ohio Statehouse renovation.
On the water resources side, we completed the Beavercreek Wastewater Treatment Plant and the City of Cleveland's Crown Finished Water Reservoir, for which we won a Build Ameria Award. We also began a decades-long collaboration with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, delivering facility improvement projects that continue today.

2000s
The new millennium brought several new opportunities for Shook — we began water and wastewater work in North Carolina and surrounding states, and opened our Kokomo, Indiana, office to support industrial work.
Ohio is home, and we continued substantial projects in the Buckeye State such as the Atrium Medical Center in Middletown and work with clients such as AT&T (pictured), Verizon, Bridgestone, Macy’s, PolyOne, and Case Western Reserve University.

2010s
Shook’s growth continued with the opening of new offices in three different states! Increasing work in the water resources space prompted us to open our Raleigh, North Carolina, office in 2012. Shook completed water and wastewater treatment plants in Gastonia, New Bern (pictured), and High Point, NC.
Work across Ohio continues, including a multi-year, multi-project construction program with Dayton Public Schools (pictured) and the St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center in Youngstown, which won a Build Ohio Award Ohio. We also worked on the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s Southerly Plant.
Our Columbus, Ohio, office opened in 2018 with work on the city’s Dublin Road Water Treatment Plant. Shook also undertook the S88 clarification and the S89 disinfection projects at Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant.
In 2019, we launched our Richmond, Indiana, location to support our decade-long relationship with Reid Health, building numerous hospitals and medical office buildings throughout the region.

2020s
As we approached 100 years in business, Shook didn’t just keep pace — momentum increased across all markets and in all regions.
Notable projects included the Bila Solar North American Headquarters in Indianapolis; the Sierra Nevada Corp.’s Aviation Innovation and Technology Center at the Dayton International Airport; the Wastewater Treatment Improvement Project in Siler City, N.C. (pictured); the Think Dayton Building at onMain, Dayton's Innovation Hub; and the Gold Lot at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport — a first step in the airport’s transformational redevelopment.
2025 brought a momentous milestone — we were awarded the Ottawa Water Treatment Plant PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) Advanced Treatment Project in Dayton, which has the potential to be the largest facility of its kind in the United States.

As we look forward to another 100 years of accomplishments, we continue to hold true to the foundations for success Charles Shook established in 1926. Those foundational traits of honesty and integrity live on in the work we do, and we uphold our Mission — To Dramatically Improve the Communities We Serve — every day.

Shook’s Mission is “To Dramatically Improve the Communities We Serve.” We honor that commitment not only in what we build, but also through outreach and acts of service in the communities where Shook teams work, live, and play.
In honor of our anniversary, Shook is embarking on a special community outreach initiative: 100 Acts of Service for 100 Years of Service. Each Shook job already completes a community outreach project annually to benefit the community where the construction is taking place. In 2026, our teams will extend their reach, volunteering their time and talent to reach 100 Acts of Service — from workforce development programs and donating trades labor and materials to participating in food and toy drives, and more.
