Women in Construction Week: Lauren Brown

2026 Mission Trip

It's Women in Construction Week! Throughout the week, we’ve been featuring women at Shook across various positions and sharing their advice for young women considering a career in the construction industry.

We wrap up the week with Lauren Brown, a Project Manager in Shook’s Midwest Region. Shook’s Project Managers provide leadership and direction for one or more projects, setting clear objectives, guiding policies, and fostering strong relationships with clients. They help projects run safely and to the highest quality standards.

  • What inspired you to pursue a career in construction?
Construction is a career I grew up admiring, having been surrounded by it in my family’s business. My grandpa, dad, and mom all played a part in shaping that passion. I was shown early on the importance of dedication to purposeful work.

  • What advice would you give to young women considering a career in construction?
I would tell young women considering a career in construction to be a sponge — absorb all of the good and challenging situations. Tackle any situation with a learn-or-win mentality. Prepare, put in the work, and your confidence will follow! And, most important, surround yourself with good people who support you, challenge you, and want to see you succeed.

  • How do you see the role of women evolving in construction? Women in construction are moving from being the exception to being an essential and growing part of the industry — in the field and in leadership. These expanded opportunities help young women see early on the mentorship and community impact that construction can provide.
