Women in Construction Week: Terri Mention

2026 Women in Construction Week

It's Women in Construction Week! Throughout the week, we will feature women at Shook across various positions as they talk about what inspired them to pursue a career in construction and share advice for women interested in the field.

Meet Terri, a Project Manager in Shook's Central Region.

Terri began her career 19 years ago through her high-school building trades program. She has been with Shook for six years, and her experience spans the early stages of estimating and award through construction and closeout. She works closely with clients and teams to deliver quality projects on time while fostering positive, lasting relationships.

  • What inspired you to pursue a career in construction?
I started construction through a building trades program at my high school. Of all the different paths I tried, it was the one that truly held my interest. I found it fascinating and that has continued throughout my career.

  • What advice would you give to young women considering a career in construction?
There are so many paths and opportunities. Explore them and learn what fits your strengths and goals. Find the part of the industry that fits you.

  • How do you see the role of women evolving in construction?I think the role of women is evolving steadily. We often talk about recruiting and supporting women entering the industry, but retaining women in the industry is just as important. Real progress occurs as the industry continues to support long-term career growth through every stage of a person’s career and life.
