ESTIMATOR

Responsible for assembling cost estimates on various divisional work elements and providing budget controls and risk assessments during the preconstruction phase. Develop relationships with Vendors and Trade Partners to maximize efficiencies and project success.

YOUR ROLE AT SHOOK CONSTRUCTION

Responsible for assembling cost estimates on various divisional work elements and providing budget controls and risk assessments during the preconstruction phase. Develop relationships with Vendors and Trade Partners to maximize efficiencies and project success.   

KEY INFORMATION

  • Attend Pre-bid meetings
  • Assist with the Bid solicitation process
  • Read and interpret Drawings and Project Specifications
  • Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs and associated costs utilizing labor, material, and equipment cost breakdowns
  • Analyze and secure costs for project specified items with appropriate subcontractors and vendors
  • Input of items into Timberline Software
  • Participate in Drawing / Estimate Reviews
  • Participate in bid day requirements
  • Participate in post bid reviews
  • Identify project risk & potential impact
  • Assemble accurate, organized estimates & proposals in a timely manner
  • Analyze alternative means & methods to determine best value to the project
  • Review General Conditions, Site Logistics, Project Schedule and Scopes of Work
  • Perform multi-level estimating techniques on alternative bid delivery systems
  • Demonstrates knowledge of conceptual estimating techniques
  • Review and make recommendations for database pricing changes
  • Build and maintain relationships with key subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
  • Evaluate industry cost trends
  • Position reports to:  Director of Preconstruction
  • Position indirectly reports to: Vice President of Preconstruction Services, Lead Estimators and Market Channel Leaders
  • Reasons for indirect reporting relationship:  Coordination of estimating responsibilities and resource management
  • Directly reporting to this position is: None
  • Indirectly reporting to this position are: Co-op / Intern

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Civil, Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management
  • 5 or more years of estimating experience in construction industry
  • Prior related construction experience

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and contract documents.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of the organization.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency with office equipment, computers and various PC software programs and estimating software.

Other Skills:

Well-organized, self-motivated and able to proficiently perform duties with little supervisory guidance.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record. Motor Vehicle report required.

Physical Demands:

Medium amount of physical exertion. Medium manual dexterity or physical manipulation. Medium level of physical stamina and endurance. Maintain regular and punctual attendance, work overtime as assigned, travel overnight as required and comply with all company policies and procedures including safety.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
