Community Outreach
Impacting our Local Communities
In correlation with nearly every job we build, Shook completes a community outreach project to further benefit the community where the construction is taking place. From the onset of a project, we map out a means of community service to be executed by the project team. These projects vary in scope—ranging from food drives to park cleanups to constructing ramps —but are often in association with an area organization identified by the client. We strongly believe in impacting our communities in a positive way, fostering meaningful relationships and improving the communities we serve.
With offices and projects across Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina, Virginia and beyond, our reach is far, and the list of service projects is long. Our greatest hope for each is always, without question, to make an impact and leave every community where we work, live and play better than when we found it.

Another Successful Generation Dayton Day!
Eleven teammates from our Midwest Region volunteered with young professionals across the Miami Valley through a day organized by the Dayton Chamber. It was a great day giving back to the community!

Crayons to Classrooms' Classroom Solutions program creates practical tools and activities that can enhance existing lesson plans or improve the classroom environment. We're thankful to team with this organization that gives back to our schools!

MAKING 250 TIE BLANKETS FOR CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE
At the Shook Annual Meeting, we partnered with My Very Own Blanket (MVOB) to make 250 tie blankets for children in foster care. Thank you, MVOB, for making a difference!

POURING CONCRETE FOR MAPLE GROVE COMMUNITY CHURCH
Our teammates in Kokomo, Indiana, recently volunteered at Maple Grove Community Church. The team extended perimeter drains, lengthened the sidewalk, poured several stoops at exterior doors, and poured the floor for a new garage behind the church. This new garage will be a storage space for Foster the Need, who will store goods, clothing, and other items for children entering foster care.

CONNECT FOR SUCCESS NC - S.H.E.D. EVENT
Our Mid-Atlantic Region teammates recently volunteered with Connect for Success NC at the Lee County S.H.E.D. event, where they served as a mentor to students from Eastern Randolph High School to promote construction-related careers. We love seeing students interested in the trades and helping to strengthen our workforce for the future of the industry!

VOLUNTEERING WITH KEEP MIDDLETOWN BEAUTIFUL FOR EARTH DAY
Our Middletown Downtown CSO Basin project team celebrated Earth Day by volunteering with Keep Middletown Beautiful. The group worked alongside City staff and Brown and Caldwell outside Middletown's Community Center. Activities included spreading mulch in the playground, making structural repairs to three pavilions, painting three pavilions and nine benches, and patching a deteriorating concrete slab for one of the pavilions. We love giving back to the communities where we work and live!

DISTRIBUTING GIFT BAGS TO MERCY HEALTH PATIENTS
In December, our Shook project team for Mercy Health's Cancer Center Facade Replacement delivered 50 gift bags to spread cheer and provide encouragement for patients going through cancer treatment. The bags included different personal health items as well as things to distract the mind such as word puzzles, fidget toys, journals, and more.
