Wright Health CenterThis 75,000 SF medical office building, which has become a Dayton landmark, was built over a landfill of debris from the 1913 flood. Because of the unstable sub grade, the building is supported by pilings in lieu of conventional foundations. The distinctive exterior glass curtain walls either radiate out from, or into, one central point. The parking lot even uses this as its radius point. The unique steel design utilizes the building’s two stairwells and elevator shaft to give lateral support for the four floor diaphragms which makes this building earthquake resistant, while beveled washers used in the steel erection allow the building to sway. |
