Skanska Shook Build's Habitat's First Green Home
The Skanska Shook joint venture has joined forces to build a green Habitat for Humanity home while managing construction of the South East Addition to the Miami Valley Hospital. The partnership between Skanska Shook and Dayton Habitat will result in a significant change for the Sibomana family by turning their dream of affordable homeownership into a reality. Due to their desire to give back to the community, Skanska Shook, along with numerous local contractors and partners, have committed to a “whole house” sponsorship with their donation of materials and labor.
Skanska Shook is committed to the implementation of sustainable practices and green construction. Skanska was named as one of the top three green contractors in 2008 by Engineering-News Record and has more than 430 LEED-accredited employees. Shook’s LEED construction experience includes nearly 1.5 million square feet of construction currently underway in the Dayton area.
“I believe we all have an obligation to give something back to each local community with which we do business,” said David Magee, Superintendent for Skanska Shook. “Dayton Habitat is a perfect fit for any builder making a significant contribution to the economic success of an area. We are really excited about building the first ‘green’ Habitat house and making a difference to a family, a neighborhood and the city of Dayton.”
