Cycling in the City

Located off the Great Miami River in the heart of downtown Dayton, the new Bike Hub satisfies a need for cycling in the city and region. Part of Five Rivers MetroParks’ RiverScape, lockers, showers and restrooms are just a few additional amenities provided for the Bike Hub. Shook was the construction manager of the project that was completed last year, making this a hotspot for friends, families, and a number of organizations to convene.
The U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program recognized the Bike Hub’s sustainability from conception to construction and throughout its daily operations. The LEED certification is based on a point system, which were awarded to this project in part because the construction process implemented the use of low-emitting materials. In addition, the project was given points for public transportation access, the green roof, water efficient landscaping, the increased ventilation, the amount of daylight, and the innovation in design. According to the Downtown Dayton Partnership’s Facebook page, “It’s quite an honor. I’m glad we pulled it off,” said Lydia Sowles, Five Rivers MetroParks park planner. “It was a real team effort.”
