University of Cincinnati Central Utility Plant![]() ![]() This project consisted of a 28,000 sq. ft. addition/renovation to an existing power plant. The plant had to remain operational throughout the project in order to supply power to the nearly 40,000 students, faculty, and staff, that relied on it for their homes and offices. Additionally, the “postage stamp” project site was located at one of the busiest traffic intersections in the city, further complicating the process. The project scope involved the relocation of three existing chillers, and the placement of four new chillers. The installation of 49 mega-watts of electric generation capacity and 4,000 ft. of thirty six inch main chilled water distribution piping. Additionally, the project required the installation of 240,000 lbs/hr of steam from the Heat Recovery System Generators (HRSGs). The project also consisted of the relocation of an electric utility service and redistribution to the campus system. Shook acted as the General Contractor on this project but as a stipulation of the contract was not permitted to self-perform any of the work. This project was a finalist for the The Ohio AGC: Build Ohio Award 2005. |
