Building Blocks

Building Blocks Program Continues Progress

The Building Blocks Training Program was started last March by Shook Construction and two Joint Venture Partners, Skanska and Touchstone respectively. As the one-year mark approaches the program continues to progress through its Construction 101 curriculum. The classes were created to identify and foster minority, female and service-disabled owned businesses in order to enhance their capabilities and their capacity to pursue larger projects. The 16-class, 32 month program is designed to provide real-world insight for the various elements of owning and operating a successful construction company. Recent classes included the fundamentals of bidding and estimating and an explanation of the language in a typical construction contract. Anyone looking to learn is invited to attend, please view the programs curriculum to learn the content of upcoming classes. Building Blocks is also an outstanding networking opportunity for the participating firms, allowing them to form relationships with the participating contractors as well as representatives from public agencies and relevant business organizations. In fact the current Shook RJE JV relationship initially started with an introduction at a Building Blocks session. We are committed to fostering and engaging qualified disadvantaged businesses and the Building Blocks Program is one aspect of this important effort.
