Baldwin Water Works
This project for the City of Cleveland involved the rehabilitation of 20 water filters while maintaining plant treatment capability of at least 100 million gallons per day. The Baldwin plant consists of a central building measuring 166 FT by 72 FT by 86 FT high with filter wings on each side measuring 354 FT by 128 FT. The scope of work consisted of phased removal of all filter media, filter equipment, pipe and valves, plumbing, HVAC, electric and instrumentation from the entire east wing. Extensive removals to bare concrete in and below each filter were performed according to a predetermined, phase-sensitive schedule. Since the original plant was designated a historical landmark in 1970, the new construction was accomplished with a hint of traditional style. Ultimately, Shook completed this contract 8 months ahead of schedule and $2-million under budget. |
