Akron Data Center

Akron Data Center Completed Successfully

This project involved the demolition and new construction of existing architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and controls in the facility’s data, mechanical and power rooms in order to accommodate more than 25,000 SF of new white space within the facility. Shook began demolition at the same time as design, as the schedule was extremely critical for this project.

  • Shook developed a budget more than four months before design, which proved to be within 2% of the actual cost.

  • Design and construction took place concurrently with the total project completed in only 11 months from design through commissioning.

  • At its’ peak labor, our team managed nearly 80 trades people on-site, in a condensed work space WITH “0” INCIDENTS on the project.

The new data space is cooled by 5 new 100 ton chilled water Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH) which are located in the Data Center Room Galleries. Installation of new chilled water piping loops was required to service the new CRAH Units. The humidity and pressure within the data center space is controlled by two Humidifiers, two Make-up Air Units and several exhaust fans and louvers.

Electrical work on the job included new lighting, outlets, raised floor grounding system, grounding and bonding, fire alarm, power to new CRAHs, humidifiers, makeup air units, exhaust fans, fire alarm systems, RDC installations, and emergency power off buttons.
